The Silver Wren - Bob Jensen, Tony McManus and Friends
Songwriter and spoken word poet, Bob Jensen and Scottish guitar virtuoso, Tony McManus have released, “The Silver Wren,” a collection of Christmas music, stories and poetry featuring artists from four continents. The lead single, which was released to radio in 24 countries in November, is a cover of Jensen’s “Christmas Song,” performed by Australia’s Bush Gothic, while Lennie Gallant performs the poem, “The Swallowtail” and Zimbabwe’s Black Umfolosi do a completely different and a cappella take on the aforementioned, “Christmas Song.”
“We did not want to release another album of well-worn favourites,” says Jensen, “So the music, chosen by Tony, consists of obscure traditional tunes from Ireland, Scotland, Brittany and Wales.Tony also composed some original music for the album.”There is a reading of The Nativity from The Gospel of Luke, and stories about lean Christmases, and about believing in Santa. The Christmas stories were taken from Jensen’s humour column, Jacob’s Ladder, which ran in several Maritime papers for years, and the title track is a story written by Jensen’s son, Sam, which was originally published by Acorn Press in 2015.The artwork for the cover was also done by Sam Jensen, with graphics by Claire Lynch.
